According to a study at the University of Veterinary Medicine in Vienna, the relationship between dogs and their owners bears striking similarities with the one between children and their parents. Both kids and dogs share the “secure base effect” which places parents and owners as the “secure base” when the little ones explore unfamiliar environments. Also, the presence of a parent or owner boosts confidence and interactivity in kids and dogs; not so much when only a stranger is there. It all adds up to dogs being our good little babies!
