“The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is facing a third federal investigation into its sexual assault policies. The university allegedly punished sophomore Landen Gambill for publicly reporting her rape. The university is also under investigation for allegedly creating a hostile climate for sexual assault survivors. Also, failing to punish rapists and sexual misconduct on campus is underreported. Gambill was one of five women who filed a federal complaint against the university, claiming UNC created a “hostile” environment for assault survivors.”
This is not the first college/university to exhibit this behavior in regards to sexual assault. I have read numerous articles that stated statistics on sexual assault and or violent crimes are consistently underreported. The general consensus for this behavior is simple. When potential students and or parents are looking for possible schools; when they check crime statistics, they seem lower or should I say, they are misleading.
Sometimes I forget this 2013! The university is exhibiting such archaic behavior. It seems we take one step forward and two steps back. These happen to be educated individuals, and this reminds me that common sense is not a requirement for a college degree.
No woman should have to fight to protect her own body!
